As a small business owner are you able to maintain a healthy work life balance or do you find it difficult?
Yes it is difficult. I feel managing your time is the key otherwise you work hard and forget to take care of yourself. Having good rest and work ethic is important as well as being efficient. I try to manage my time in advance and keep account of all upcoming appointments. I will take time to look the day before at my schedule to plan before I go to bed. This helps me feel more organised in the mornings and I know when i can take time for myself.
When you come across business hurdles is there anything you do mentally to get yourself and your team through the issue?
There's two things I do, firstly I meditate whilst doing breath work , this is something I know not many of my male friends would try but I recommend it even for a couple of minutes a day. Secondly I try to have a laugh with a friend, reaching out just by a phone call or message, doesn't have to be anything serious. Or I put something funny on the TV or my phone to get me in the mood.

You cater for 100's of people at a time which is awesome! How do you make sure your mindset is prepared to receive customer feedback?
This is hard! You cook and it doesn’t matter how many years been doing it you still want the validation. The main thing to do is to make sure you have done everything on your side to the best of your ability and believe in the results that you have received. Everybody’s taste buds are different so understanding that you’re never going to please everyone is key. Other than that never take anything personally but always look at it as valuable information to enhance growth mental and spiritual growth.
What kind of activity do you do to relax and reflect?
Walking is the best. Football with friends is also nice, I am a part of a MAN v FAT Club. But talking with someone that is a true friend is the best. And maybe a milkshake aswell lol.
Finally, is there any advice would you give to other small business owners working hard and struggling to protect their mental wellbeing?
First of all, thank you for this opportunity to share my thoughts I hope that this can help one other self employed business owner.
As a small business owner we have to do all the tasks and roles involved in running a business ie admin, marketing, accounting and providing our service. The thought of this can be so overwhelming so nutrition and walking is extremely important. If you can get a good sleep wake up go for a small power walk and have some fruits, yogurt and eggs you can power through any challenge and also water is key. This will help reduce anxiety and stress in a huge way.
Second thing is having a good community around you. Through our challenges it’s important we stick with positive elevating people and just by these small changes you’re winning and your small business will thrive.
